Dimmitt Automotive proudly partners with AMIkids to offer at-risk kids the educational experiences that may just make the difference in their lives.
Representatives from Dimmitt Automotive Group spent an incredible day in Tampa Bay helping with a fantastic program, the AMIkids Science Floating Classroom.
The Science Floating Classroom is a unique learning experience which introduces the kids to the field of marine biology. An educator teaches the participants a marine biology lesson, incorporating the core subjects of math and science. After the lesson, the kids get to enjoy a hands-on encounter with science as they wade into the waters of Tampa Bay and collect their own samples and specimens, examining the collections under an on-board microscope.
AMIkids was founded 50 years ago in Fort Lauderdale by two men, Chief Juvenile Court Judge Frank Orlando and his high school friend Bob Rosof, who wanted to make a difference in the lives of troubled kids. Judge Orlando selected a group of young men and boys to find work aboard a research vessel under Mr. Rosof’s direction at the Florida Atlantic Ocean Science Institute. From its first year, the program was a success.
In time, the organization grew into the charitable powerhouse it is today.
As a part of their educational agenda, AMIkids pairs at-risk youth with mentors who can provide them with educational experiences. Those types of experiences lead to empowered kids who are engaged and active within their community. And that’s what the Science Floating Classroom is all about: teaching kids about marine biology, exposing a different kind of hands-on education, and providing an outlet for at-risk youth. Education is empowering, and Dimmitt Automotive Group supports AMIkids in their quest to empower at-risk youth.
Thank you to everyone who came out for a great day of education and mentorship! If you’d like to learn more about AMIkids and how you can get involved, please visit AMIkids.org
